It has long been recognised that the Massey community lacks key services and support for rangatahi, forcing many young people to leave the area to access opportunities for support and development. This creates a significant barrier to their ability to engage with these resources.
Currently, there is no central space where young people can seek help, find connection and belonging, participate in meaningful after-school activities and access youth specific mental health, health care, housing and self development opportunities.
Our vision is to establish a Rangatahi One-Stop Shop — a Youth Hub that serves as a place of connection and belonging for young people in our community. This hub would offer programmes and access to services that support their Haoura, growth, and development.
The completion of this study, is an exciting step towards our vision becoming a reality for our rangatahi and community.
The Trust would like to acknowledge the proactive funding support provided by DIA via a Lotteries Grant, without whom this project to explore youth and community needs for a youth centre in Massey would not have been possible.
